The ZOOM L105 was designed around one disciplined idea: a perfectly straight silhouette from the very tip to the end cap, with no clip, no grip section indent, and no decorative breaks to interrupt the line. Where most mechanical pencils taper abruptly or add textured zones, the L105 lets the geometry do the work.

Choosing brass for the barrel was a deliberate engineering decision. Brass is denser than aluminum or resin, so a 10.3mm-diameter barrel at 145mm length lands at a writing weight that keeps the pencil from feeling light and fidgety. The taper that begins around 30mm from the tip eases the transition to the writing point without disturbing the overall straight-line impression.

The color finishes go through multiple coating layers before a final topcoat seals them, which is what produces the soft, slightly luminous quality visible especially in the White, Light Blue, and Lime Green variants. Silver keeps the brass character closer to the surface for those who prefer a metallic read.
