OLFA's X Design Hyper Series starts from a single question: what does a grip actually need to do? The X-shaped cross-section channels applied force toward the blade rather than dispersing it, while the double-injection molded rubber layer keeps the handle from rotating in a wet or gloved hand. The result is a shape arrived at through grip geometry rather than aesthetics.

The other standout detail is the cord attachment hole at the rear of the body. On most cutter knives, a lanyard hole is an afterthought, small and awkwardly placed. Here, the hole is large enough to accept a carabiner directly, and its position is deliberate: it sits behind the blade-change zone so attaching or detaching a safety cord does not interfere with routine blade swaps. This addresses a real friction point in manufacturing and construction environments where dropped tools carry safety and audit consequences.

The screw-lock mechanism rounds out the design by clamping the blade firmly all the way to the tip, eliminating the micro-flex that can occur with standard slider locks under heavy lateral pressure.
