The Vistage Water Brush (known in Japan as Mizu-fude, literally "water brush") was designed around a simple idea: eliminate the separate water cup from a watercolor session. Water sits inside the soft PE barrel, and a gentle squeeze pushes it through the nylon bristles at a controlled rate. The same press-to-flush action that wets the bristles also rinses away pigment, keeping cleanup built into the painting process itself.

Pentel chose nylon fiber originally developed for their makeup brush line, a material selected for its ability to hold water without splaying and to release it evenly without sudden flooding. The tip geometry varies across the lineup: round tips in Small, Medium, and Large for general washes and blending; a flat tip in Medium for broad strokes and edge work; and a Mini-Medium for a more compact form factor. The Slim Type variant refines the water flow valve for finer control, making it the option of choice when precision matters more than coverage, such as adding color to small areas of a sketch or working with watercolor pastels where blending needs to stay contained.
