Behind the Design

This card set was conceived around a single idea: a New Year's greeting that doesn't get tucked away in a drawer. By printing on clear PET film and applying gold foil across the whole surface, the card catches and scatters light in a way paper alone cannot. The result is something the recipient can prop on a shelf or windowsill and enjoy as decor through the new year season.

The eight motifs draw from classic Japanese New Year symbolism: the beckoning Lucky Cat, the perseverance of the Daruma, the auspicious Sea Bream (whose Japanese name "medetai" is a pun on celebration), the longevity pairing of Crane and Tortoise, Camellia and Cherry Blossom for the season, and Fireworks and Jellyfish as more graphic, contemporary choices. Each design is rendered so the transparency of the card becomes part of the composition rather than just a material choice.

A clear PET card printed with gold foil across the entire surface, designed to work as a greeting card and a small piece of room decor at the same time. Eight traditional New Year motifs are available, from the Lucky Cat to Jellyfish. Each set includes the transparent card, a mini card, and an envelope.
