Tinga Tinga painting originated in Tanzania in the late 1960s, named after its founder Edward Said Tingatinga. The style is instantly recognizable: animals rendered with thick, confident outlines and filled with flat, vivid color, often arranged in scenes that feel playful and almost comic. It became one of the most widely recognized African contemporary art forms, spreading from Dar es Salaam to galleries and craft markets across the continent and beyond.

This calendar brings that tradition into an unexpected format, printed on lokta paper made by hand in Nepal. Lokta, made from the bark of the Daphne plant, has a slightly fibrous texture and a warm, organic feel that suits the energy of Tinga Tinga illustration far better than standard coated stock would.
