Behind the Design

Okashi na Doubutsu Kobo translates loosely to "Strange Animal Sweets Workshop," and the concept carries through every detail of the packaging. Each memo block is presented as though it were a packaged confection you'd bring home from a specialty shop, with the animal character playing the role of the treat inside.

The paper itself is Mino Washi, a traditional Japanese paper from Gifu Prefecture with a long history of craftsmanship. Using it here gives the sheets a texture and quality that sets them apart from standard memo pads. The third collection introduces six new animal characters, each with its own personality captured in the illustration and packaging design.

A memo block made from Mino Washi Japanese paper, dressed up to look like a packaged sweet treat. Each of the six designs in this third Okashi na Doubutsu Kobo collection features a different animal character, and the whole block is meant to feel like something you'd pick up at a confectionery shop.
