OLFA's X Design Hyper Series was built around one specific problem: standard cutter handles round out under load, causing the grip to slip at the moment you need control most. The X Design cross-section puts flat surfaces where your fingers and palm naturally apply pressure, so force goes into the cut rather than into correcting your grip.

The Speed Blade is the other piece of the equation. OLFA's standard black blade is already sharpened at an acute angle for a more aggressive edge than the yellow blade. The Speed Blade takes that further by applying a fluorine coating to the sharpened face. Fluorine reduces friction between the blade and the material, which is most noticeable when cutting dense cardboard or styrene board where a standard blade drags. The result is a cut that takes less force to initiate and sustain.

The claw at the rear of the body is a small but considered addition. Box-cutters are used for unpacking as much as for cutting, and the claw handles strapping and tape without requiring a separate tool. It also fits under paint can lids, giving the knife a second life in workshop and construction contexts.
