Behind the Design

Hajime Okamoto is an ink wash artist known for his soft, contemplative cat illustrations. Working in the sumi-e tradition, he uses diluted ink and controlled brushwork to create figures that feel calm and a little otherworldly.

The Shofuku Neko Goyomi (Lucky Cat Calendar) packages one of his illustrations per month into a compact desktop format. "Shofuku" means good fortune, and the lucky cat motif has centuries of history in Japanese folk culture as a symbol of luck and prosperity.
