Rotary cutters handle materials that straight blades struggle with: fabric shifts, film tears, and rubber sheets resist. A rolling circular blade maintains continuous contact along the cut line, reducing drag and keeping layers in place.

OLFA chose a 28mm blade diameter for this model, smaller than the standard 45mm rotary cutters common in quilting. The reduced radius makes tighter curves more manageable and the overall cutter easier to maneuver in confined spaces. The tungsten steel blade holds an edge longer than standard steel.

The blade-change system uses a single red sliding lock on the back face. Flip the cutter blade-side down, slide the lock, lift the blade, set the new one, and re-lock. No secondary tools, no loose screws. The blade cover pulls forward to expose the edge during use and should be replaced immediately after each session.
