Behind the Design

Nichiban is best known as the inventor of cellophane tape in Japan, but the Petit Joie line shows a different side of the brand. Developed for everyday decoration rather than utilitarian fixing, these tapes are made from washi, the traditional Japanese paper known for its soft texture and slight translucency.

The name "Petit Joie" is French for "little joy," a phrase that shapes the entire design direction: small-scale patterns in muted, comfortable tones that don't overwhelm a notebook spread or envelope. The washi base means the tape tears in a straight, controlled line without scissors, lifts off cleanly from most surfaces, and can be layered or repositioned during a project without leaving marks.

Petit Joie (French for "little joy") is a washi masking tape line from Nichiban featuring soft, illustrated patterns on Japanese paper. It tears cleanly by hand, repositions without residue, and comes in nine designs ranging from florals to a hedgehog motif.
