PERPANEP is a KOKUYO notebook series built around the idea that paper and pen should work as a pair. The name comes from the phrase "a clever meeting of paper and pen," and each notebook in the line is developed with a specific paper texture in mind, so that the writing surface itself is the design decision, not just an afterthought.

This edition uses Sarasara paper, which translates roughly to "smooth" in Japanese. The 75g/m² sheet was developed in-house with a fine micro-texture that reduces friction under a ballpoint or gel pen tip without going so smooth that it loses all tactile feedback. The result is a surface that feels light under the hand but still gives the pen enough tooth to write cleanly.

The German binding is what sets the physical form apart. Unlike a standard sewn-spine or glued notebook, German binding allows the cover to hinge completely away from the spine block, so the notebook lays fully flat with no raised edge at the center and can fold back on itself 360 degrees. It also keeps a hard cover, which holds its shape when writing without a desk. The Slim A5 format keeps the footprint narrow enough to slip into most bags without taking up a full A5 width.
