The Sodateru Eraser (literally "growing eraser") series was born from Sun-Star's stationery idea contest, where the winning concept was deceptively straightforward: what if using an eraser was its own reward?

Most erasers are meant to disappear. You use them, they shrink, and at some point the stub is too small to hold and gets tossed. The Sodateru series flips that relationship. Each eraser starts as a rectangular block, but as it wears down through normal use, an animal shape emerges. The calico cat (Neko Gom Mike) and sea otter (Umi Gom Rakko) are two of the newest additions to the lineup, each sculpted so the reveal happens gradually and naturally across the erasing surface.

The PVC material erases cleanly, and the PET case keeps the shape intact before first use. The series has been popular enough to expand repeatedly since its debut, which suggests the idea resonates beyond novelty. There is something genuinely satisfying about watching an object develop over time through your own use of it.
