The Japanese calendar has long been tied to the natural world. Before modern timekeeping, farmers, poets, and everyday people tracked the year through the moon's waxing and waning, and through a system of 24 solar terms dividing the year into periods like "Grain Rain" and "Frost's Descent." These were further subdivided into 72 microseasons, each lasting around five days and named for small natural events: "Frogs Begin to Sing," "Lotuses Begin to Bloom."

This calendar brings that tradition into a daily ritual. Each sheet is set against a deep indigo background, referencing the color of the night sky ("kon" in Japanese), and shows the moon's phase for that day alongside the active solar term and microseason.
