Noshibukuro are traditional Japanese gift envelopes used to present money or small tokens on occasions that call for a little ceremony. The decorative noshi element, historically a strip of dried abalone, has long been a symbol of good fortune in Japanese gifting culture, and its stylized form now appears printed on envelopes like these.

Furukawashiko produces this series using Mino Washi, a paper with roots in Gifu Prefecture stretching back over 1,300 years. Mino Washi is known for its fine texture and quiet strength. Here it carries soft floral patterns in restrained color tones that sit between casual and formal, giving the envelopes a warmth that generic printed envelopes rarely achieve.

Each design is inscribed with a specific Japanese phrase tied to its occasion. Rather than a catch-all greeting, the envelope itself communicates the sentiment, which is a small but considered detail in the tradition of Japanese gift-giving.
