Behind the Design

Mino Washi is one of Japan's oldest papermaking traditions, originating in Gifu Prefecture and recognized as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. The Rakusuishi variety used here is made with a process that creates a delicate, lace-like surface pattern within the paper itself, not printed on top.

The HONTOWATASHI series (a name that plays on the Japanese word for "book" and the phrase for "truly me") was designed for readers who want their books to feel personal. Each design in this cover line draws from botanical and everyday motifs, from gypsophila and lily of the valley to bread and cats, keeping the mood light and tactile.

The covers arrive pre-creased to fit standard Japanese paperback dimensions, so there is no folding or measuring required. An inner sheet layer blocks ink or imagery from the book cover beneath from showing through the semi-translucent washi surface.

A book cover made from Mino Washi Rakusuishi paper, a traditional Japanese paper known for its lace-like texture and soft feel. Each pack contains two assorted designs, so you can rotate covers based on your mood. Pre-creased folds fit standard paperback size right out of the pack.
