The Metal Hyper PRO AL Type sits within OLFA's X Design Hyper Series, a line focused on body rigidity and grip ergonomics in heavy-use cutting tools. Where most large cutters use a single-material body, this one stacks three distinct materials: a rubber outer grip shaped to channel force without slipping, an aluminum die-cast shell finished in a gun metal baked-on coat, and a stainless steel blade holder that undergoes full-surface hardening before a chrome-plating pass.

The hardened holder is the structural core of the design. Conventional holders can bend or deform under lateral force or impact; the full-surface hardening process here is aimed specifically at resisting that kind of deformation, including from drops. Chrome plating adds a further wear-resistance layer to the contact surface where the blade slides.

The auto-lock slider was redesigned compared to earlier Hyper models: it's wider but thinner, sitting closer to the body so it doesn't interrupt a closed grip. The included special black blade is double-ground at a more acute angle than OLFA's standard blades, trading some toughness for a noticeably sharper initial edge. The two-stage grinding compensates by reducing chipping along that acute bevel.
