The MD Calendar follows the same design philosophy as the MD Note Diary: pare back every element that isn't necessary, and give the remaining space back to the user. Most calendars fill every cell with as much as possible. This one deliberately leaves the bottom third of each monthly page blank, with no ruling, no prompts, no structure.

The paper is MD Paper, a cream-toned stock that MIDORI has been developing since the 1960s. It was originally engineered for writing instruments that were just becoming popular at the time, and the formula has been refined over decades to resist feathering and bleed-through even from fountain pens. Using that same paper in a calendar is a quiet signal that the writing area matters as much as the date grid.

The Monday-start layout was introduced in 2023, aligning the calendar with how most planners and notebooks in Japan are now structured. The 2027 edition removed the red ink used for Sundays and holidays, shifting to an all-black print that keeps the page visually consistent and easier to annotate over.
