The MD Calendar shares its design language with the MD Note Diary: a restrained layout, minimal ornamentation, and a deliberate focus on the writing surface itself. The monthly grid sits with generous whitespace on all sides, leaving the margins open for sketches, reminders, or stray thoughts rather than filling every centimeter with preprinted structure.

The paper is MIDORI's own MD Paper, a cream-tinted stock developed in-house since the 1960s and refined specifically to resist bleed-through and feathering. That means fountain pen users can write freely without worrying about ink seeping to the reverse side. The single-cord binding lets the calendar stand upright on a desk or fold completely flat, so the surface is stable whether you're reading dates or actively writing on the page.

From the 2023 edition onward, weeks start on Monday, aligning with international ISO standards and the layout familiar to planners used across Europe and Japan. The 2027 edition continues this format across three desk variants: the standard monthly Desktop, the Desktop Twin showing two months side by side, and the Desktop Weekly for a day-by-day breakdown.
