Behind the Design

BGM's Monotone foil stamping tape series launched in September 2024 as part of a push toward decoration tape that works without relying on color. The three designs, Swag (a looping botanical garland), Starry Sky (scattered constellations), and Lace (a repeating filigree border), are all rendered in black and white with a foil layer pressed over the surface.

The foil stamping process applies a thin metallic film directly onto the washi tape, creating a reflective sheen that shifts with light. On a monotone base, the effect is restrained rather than flashy: the pattern reads as graphic in flat light and picks up glimmer at an angle. The 15mm width sits comfortably along calendar grids and notebook margins without overpowering the page.
