Standard colored pencils rely on wood barrels and a sharpener, which works fine on paper but wastes lead when you need just a short exposed tip for marking hard or non-porous surfaces. The 2285 Marking Graph pencil swaps the wood barrel for a paper wrap: instead of sharpening, you peel back the paper layer by layer to reveal more of the thick marking core.

That core is formulated to adhere to surfaces that would repel a normal pencil, including glazed ceramics, bare metal, glass, and synthetic materials like rubber and plastic. The round shaft keeps it comfortable to hold during repetitive marking tasks.
