Behind the Design

In Japan, the custom of sending nengajō (New Year's postcards) dates back generations, but in recent years a quiet shift has been happening. More people, especially working adults, are choosing to stop the annual exchange, and the social norm of how to announce that gracefully has been slow to catch up.

Furukawashiko designed these stickers as a small but thoughtful solution: a purpose-built label you attach directly to a postcard or winter greeting card to signal that this will be your last one. Made from washi with a removable masking adhesive, they can be applied without damaging the card underneath. The 2027 Year of the Sheep edition comes in three designs, Floral, Lucky Charms (Engi-mono), and Animals, each reflecting seasonal Japanese motifs appropriate for the occasion.

In Japan, sending New Year's cards (nengajō) is a deeply ingrained tradition, but more people are stepping away from it each year. These washi stickers are designed to attach to a final card or winter greeting, making the announcement graceful rather than awkward. Available in small and large sizes across three seasonal designs.
