KOKUYO's field notebook, known in Japan as the 野帳 (yacho), has been a staple for surveyors, engineers, and fieldworkers since 1959. Its slim dimensions, stiff cover, and no-nonsense grid pages were designed for taking notes outdoors with one hand while standing. The format has barely changed in decades, which is part of why it developed a cult following well beyond its original professional audience.

For this limited collaboration, KOKUYO partnered with mt, the masking tape brand from Kamoi Kakoshi that helped spark Japan's washi tape culture. mt's signature patterns, including bicolor colorblocks, architectural prints, bold stripes, and a collage of tape designs, are printed directly onto the field notebook's cover. The result is a notebook that keeps everything functional about the original while giving it a visual identity that's distinctly mt.

Because the cover is essentially a blank canvas, the design also invites layering: wrapping the spine or corners with your own mt tape is a natural next step, turning each notebook into a one-of-a-kind object.
