Behind the Design

The Yacho (field notebook) has been a KOKUYO staple since 1959, originally issued to land surveyors who needed a small, tough notebook they could use outdoors. Its hardcover, its distinctive green color, and its ruled pages have made it a cult object among stationery fans far beyond the surveying profession.

The mt brand, produced by Kamoi Kakoshi Co., Ltd. (founded 1923), started as a manufacturer of industrial and painting masking tape before turning its washi tape expertise toward decorative applications. The combination of mt's flexible washi construction and Yacho's graphic world results in tapes that pull directly from the notebook's visual language: ruled-line grids, surveying instruments, and the all-over Yacho pattern repeat. The 15mm width sits at a size that works for both page borders and envelope seals without waste, and 5m per roll gives meaningful coverage across a range of projects.

KOKUYO's Yacho field notebook and Kamoi Kakoshi's mt masking tape brand joined forces to produce this set of six limited-edition designs. Each 15mm-wide roll draws from Yacho's ruled pages, surveying imagery, and all-over notebook patterns, bringing a field-notebook sensibility to journaling, collage, and wrapping.
