Fumiwo is a Japanese artist who creates illustrations through hand-carved stamps, a technique that gives each design its distinctive woodblock-like texture and slightly irreverent character. For this pochi-bukuro series, Fumiwo turns the tradition of New Year gift-giving into a small comedy: the envelopes feature portraits of historical figures, from Japanese samurai and Meiji-era reformers to international names like Einstein and Napoleon, rendered in Fumiwo's deadpan stamp style.

The 2027 Year of the Sheep additions carry the joke further, placing sheep hats on familiar faces from earlier in the series. Pochi-bukuro are typically small and plain, so receiving one printed with a solemn portrait of Oda Nobunaga or a bespectacled Dazai Osamu turns a routine gift moment into something worth a second look.
