Behind the Design

Fumiwo is a hand-carved stamp artist known for illustrations that lean into dry humor and Japanese cultural reference. These pochi-bukuro were created as a limited seasonal item for the 2027 Year of the Sheep, bringing Fumiwo's carved-stamp aesthetic into a gift envelope format.

The designs play with familiar archetypes: a samurai lord, a kabuki stage hand, a charging bull motif named after Shibusawa Eiichi (the historical figure now on Japan's 10,000 yen note), and phrases that wink at the slightly awkward social ritual of handing over cash. Foil stamping is applied to each design, giving the envelopes a festive shimmer that suits the New Year gifting season.

Pochi-bukuro are the small envelopes used in Japan for giving cash gifts, otoshidama, tips, and little tokens. These ones feature hand-carved stamp-style illustrations by artist Fumiwo, printed with foil stamping for a shimmery finish. Each pack contains 3 envelopes, and five humorous designs are available for the 2027 Year of the Sheep.
