Coji-Coji is a manga series by Akira Toriyama, the creator of Dragon Ball, originally serialized in the 1990s. The title character is a small, round creature from a magical world, and the humor is deliberately low-key and surreal. The series has maintained a cult following in Japan for decades, and its characters lend themselves well to stationery and gift goods precisely because the deadpan expressions translate so naturally onto paper products.

Furukawashiko produces these envelopes as a limited New Year release for the 2027 Year of the Sheep. The pochi-bukuro format is the informal option, typically used for small cash gifts or tokens of appreciation. The noshi-bukuro is the more formal version, with the traditional decorative noshi fold printed on the front. Having Coji-Coji imagery on a noshi-bukuro creates a gentle contrast between the formality of the format and the absurdity of the character, which is part of the appeal. The designs include seasonal references like Mt. Fuji alongside Coji-Coji-specific phrases, making them readable as New Year envelopes even to recipients unfamiliar with the character.
