Yuko Kurihara (born 1976) studied nihonga — traditional Japanese painting — at the University of Tsukuba Graduate School before spending fifteen years as a graphic designer. When she returned to painting, she brought both worlds with her: the meticulous, layered sensibility of nihonga and an acute visual instinct for composition and color. Her subjects are quiet and close at hand: apples that warm the palm, red turnips whose leaves wilt within minutes of leaving the bag, oysters whose shells record their environment like geological strata, a sea turtle observed at the Enoshima Aquarium on a hot summer day, its shell catching the refracted light of the water's surface.

The CWP (Creative Works Print) process was developed to find new dimensions in an artist's work rather than simply reproduce it. Kurihara's paintings are scanned and printed in high definition on Airlas, a flat-coated paper selected for specialty printing. A specialty press then applies gold foil and raised clear varnish to specific passages of the image. The result is a surface with a lacquer-like sheen and tactile depth that the original paintings do not possess — a parallel artwork rather than a copy.

Each poster is framed in teak sourced from northern Thailand. Because teak grain varies from piece to piece, no two frames are identical in tone or pattern. The acrylic front panel is designed to be removed so the decorated surface can be touched directly. Edition size is 300 per design, each signed and numbered by the artist.
