Kanae Kouno is a painter and illustrator based in Hayama, Kanagawa, originally from Kagawa Prefecture. She works with ink, scratch techniques that carve into layered pigment, and collage, all without preliminary sketches. Her subjects draw from the natural world around her: plants, birds, and the textures of living things. The color depth in her work comes from complex layering rather than flat application.

The CWP (Creative Works Print) series from TOUCH & FLOW was conceived to bridge the gap between original paintings and mass-produced prints. The key material choice is Croco GA, a specialty paper with a surface texture that reads like fine leather. When Kouno's graphical, textile-like imagery is printed on it with high-definition UV inkjet and finished with clear varnish at select points, the result catches light differently depending on viewing angle. The texture of the paper becomes part of the artwork itself.

"Wandervogel" draws from the image of migratory birds crossing oceans, their feathers holding the blue of deep water and the red of burning sunsets. "Hagukumi no Tori (Nurturing Bird)" is quieter: a figure in which new life breathes, the world itself on the verge of budding. Both works are numbered to 100 copies each and carry Kouno's signature, placing them in the territory between print edition and craft object.
