Behind the Design

The Koyomi series takes its name from the Japanese word for calendar or almanac, rooting each card in a specific moment of the year rather than a generic seasonal theme. The September card is anchored in the particular quality of early-autumn light in Japan: the heat of summer retreating, the sky shifting into a clearer, higher blue.

ROKKAKU layered two foil treatments to render this. Metal orange foil catches light the way late-summer sunsets do, while matte gold foil reads differently depending on angle and ambient light. The result is a postcard that changes slightly depending on how you hold it. It works as a mailer or framed as a small seasonal display piece.
