Behind the Design

KING JIM's Jim Mart series takes the everyday convenience store and turns it into stationery. The Letter Onigiri is one of the series' more committed concepts: the card is packaged to look exactly like an onigiri from the chilled food section, and it opens the same way, by pulling the tab and peeling back the wrapper.

The 12 designs cover the full spectrum of convenience store onigiri culture, from classic pickled plum and tuna mayo to the hot snack corner staples like fried chicken and hot dog. The joke lands twice: once when the sender picks a flavor, and again when the recipient figures out what they're actually holding.

A message card disguised as a convenience store onigiri and hot snack, complete with a pull-open wrapper that works just like the real thing. Part of KING JIM's Jim Mart series, it comes in 12 fillings, from pickled plum to hot snack chicken. Both the person writing it and the person opening it will feel a little hungry.
