Many Japanese elementary schools require students to use plain pencils without character-based illustrations, which rules out much of what kids actually want to use. The ippo! Kakikata series was developed to close that gap: barrels with solid colors, gradations, or natural wood grain that read as "plain" by school standards while still giving children something they enjoy picking up.

The three pattern families reflect different tastes. Plain patterns (Navy, Purple, Light Blue) offer clean, bold color. The gradation and metallic variants add visual movement while remaining character-free. The Natural pattern leans into the texture and warmth of the wood itself, deliberately minimal. The 4B and 6B grades extend the range for calligraphy practice and early handwriting exercises that require softer leads.
