The ippo! series from Tombow is designed specifically for notebook-based studying, where writing and erasing happen in rapid cycles. Conventional soft leads in the 2B–6B range erase poorly: the graphite particles don't adhere well to eraser surfaces, leaving smudges and ghost marks that make notes harder to read over time.

Tombow developed the Sara-Kie Core to solve this. The formulation adds components that improve the bond between graphite particles and eraser surfaces, so the lead lifts away rather than smearing. The result is cleaner erasing with less pressure and less leftover residue on the page.

The barrel designs were created with school use in mind. All three patterns avoid character imagery, so they comply with the school-supply regulations common in Japanese elementary and middle schools. The Blue (M) and Pink (W) patterns use glitter gradients for students who want some personality in their stationery, while the Natural (N) pattern offers a straightforward wood-grain look.
