The 196B belongs to OLFA's Hyper Series, a line built around the X Design concept: a grip shape engineered specifically so that force transfers cleanly from hand to blade without slipping. Most cutter knives prioritize compactness, but the Hyper H-Type Screw Lock goes the other direction, scaling up to 185mm total length so that users with larger hands can hold the knife the way it was meant to be held.

The blade itself is the other half of the story. Standard large blades (18mm) can flex under pressure on dense materials like gypsum board or thick flooring panels. The 25mm H-type blade runs 0.7mm thick and is manufactured to resist warping, keeping the cut line stable even under heavy downward force. The screw-lock replaces the common slider-lock, clamping the blade all the way to the tip rather than just at the body, which is the point where flex is most likely to occur.

The body resin is glass fiber-reinforced polypropylene rather than standard PP, which increases rigidity without adding significant weight. The rubber grip is double-injection molded directly onto the body, meaning it won't separate or shift during use.
