OLFA designed the 111B as a compact scissors that could handle the full range of everyday cutting tasks without sacrificing blade quality. The central engineering decision was the giza (serrated) edge applied to the stainless steel blade. On a standard straight edge, smooth materials like film, vinyl wrapping, and PP bands shift under the blade and require repeated repositioning. The giza finish introduces micro-teeth that grip the material on contact, keeping it in place from the first stroke.

The blade uses SUS420J2 stainless steel, a grade chosen for its balance of edge retention and corrosion resistance. The pivot uses SUS430 stainless with a brass nickel-plated rivet, keeping the hinge tight without adding unnecessary bulk. Because the blade can be rinsed clean, the scissors moves freely between office paperwork, kitchen prep, and garden trimming without contamination concerns. The small overall size keeps it within reach without occupying much space in a drawer or desk organizer.
