Standard large-blade cutters handle most tasks, but thick flooring materials, gypsum board, and dense plastics expose their limits: the blade flexes, cuts veer off-line, and repeated passes are needed. OLFA designed the H-type specifically for those situations.

The blade is 0.7mm thick, noticeably heavier than a typical large blade, which keeps warping minimal even under lateral pressure. At 25mm wide, it also distributes cutting force across a broader edge. The screw-lock holds the extended blade rigid rather than relying on a simple friction slider, which matters when the blade is extended far enough to reach thick stock.

The body follows the blade's scale: 173.5mm long and 44mm wide, it sits deep in the palm and leaves room for a full grip. The rubber strip on the back of the handle adds friction without requiring a specific hand position. The same body also accepts H-type saw replacement blades, turning the cutter into a compact pull saw for wood or plastic cuts where a straight knife edge isn't the right tool.
