Behind the Design

The SN-797 was designed around the small frustrations students run into when using a standard ruler. Conventional rulers often have a blank gap before the zero mark, which causes measurement errors when the starting point isn't obvious. Here, the scale begins exactly at the edge, so distances read correctly without mental correction.

The graduated color-coding along the scale makes it easier to draw standard margins, a recurring task in Japanese elementary and middle school classrooms where ruled margins are expected in notebooks. The included name sticker addresses the equally practical problem of rulers going missing in a classroom full of identical ones.
