Behind the Design

This mini letter set is part of a collaboration between Furukawashiko and Aya Inoue, an illustrator known for her fine, precise line work and a soft palette that lends itself naturally to food illustration.

The four designs center on classic Western-style sweets: a Victoria cake, a layered parfait, an ice cream sundae, and a trifle. Each illustration is rendered on washi, a Japanese paper with a texture that softens color and adds a slight warmth to the print. The foil stamping is used selectively, picking out details within the illustration rather than framing the whole sheet, so the shimmer feels like part of the drawing rather than decoration added on top.

The compact format keeps the set easy to mail without an envelope upgrade, and the washi base means the paper folds cleanly without cracking at the crease.
