Behind the Design

Furukawashiko developed this series around the visual trick of layering foil on a see-through base. On paper, foil stamping sits on top of an opaque surface. On clear PET, light passes through from behind, giving the metallic areas a glow that shifts as the card moves.

The eight designs in this set are all dessert and sweet-themed: cream sodas, parfaits, shortcakes, jelly, and a few whimsical characters to go with them. The imagery pairs with the material in a deliberate way: the translucency of the PET echoes the glassy look of jellies and fizzy drinks, and the foil reads as the shimmer on a glaze or a sparkle in a glass.

A postcard-sized card printed on transparent PET with foil stamping on top. Hold it up to the light and the foil catches it from behind the clear base, which gives the design a depth you don't get from paper cards.
