The spine is constructed to open completely flat, which matters with a monthly block layout because the grid spans both pages and any curve in the binding interrupts the dates at the center fold.

The file-style features built into the cover reflect how the diary is actually used in motion. The left inner slit fits a business card or doubles as a bookmark so the diary opens to the current month without flipping. The right pocket holds documents for reference during meetings or events.
