Behind the Design

KOKUYO ME partnered with Urban Research's commpost initiative to create a flat case that puts unused material to work. Commpost collects deadstock fabric from Urban Research's own production and takes in used clothing, then routes that material into new products rather than waste streams.

The result is a case where the outer fabric is a mix of polyethylene, ethylene propylene rubber, polypropylene, and recycled fiber, each unit drawing from a pool of material that varies in color and surface character. No two cases will be identical. The inner layer is polyester, and the core uses EVA for light structure without bulk, keeping the case flat enough to slip into a bag while still holding a B5 notebook alongside smaller items.

A flat case born from a collaboration between KOKUYO ME and Urban Research's commpost project. The fabric comes from deadstock and collected used clothing, upcycled into a case that fits a B5 notebook alongside pens, earphones, and other small daily carry items. Each piece carries natural variation in color and texture.
