Behind the Design

MIDORI's illustrated wall calendar series pairs their signature large-format layout with artists who bring a distinct visual world to each edition. For 2027, they collaborated with Natsumi Teraoka, whose dog illustrations are known for their vivid color palette and playful rainbow-colored outlines.

The theme, "A Year Living with Dogs," runs through all twelve months, with each page depicting a different scene: quiet domestic moments alongside more expansive, landscape-inspired compositions. Rather than using digital type for the calendar grid, MIDORI kept the ruling, date numbers, and monthly labels hand-drawn, so the functional elements of the calendar feel continuous with the illustration rather than imposed on top of it.

The L size gives the artwork room to breathe across the full spread, making the calendar as much a rotating print display as a scheduling tool.
