MIDORI designed this calendar around the idea that a desk accessory should be worth looking at, not just functional. Each of the twelve sheets carries a large illustration drawn by hand, with date and month numbers that follow suit, giving the calendar a warmer, less typeset feel than standard desk formats.

The wooden base is engraved with a small animal illustration that matches the calendar's design pattern, and the textured finish keeps the base from reading as purely utilitarian. The entire stack of sheets must stay together on the base throughout the year to maintain the standing balance, which means the calendar gets thinner month by month as pages are removed, a small, satisfying side effect of using it.
