Snapping a cutter blade is a routine step, but disposing of the broken segments safely has always required a separate container. If you're cutting cardboard or thin plywood at a worktable that doesn't have a dedicated disposal bin nearby, those fragments tend to end up loose on the surface, creating a hazard.

The DL-1 addresses this by building the blade snapper directly into the body of the cutter. The snapper slides off with one push on a marked release point, snaps the blade at the score line, and clips back onto the knife body in one motion. The internal chamber holds around two full blades worth of segments, so you're not emptying it after every snap. The auto-lock mechanism keeps the blade fixed at the extended position until you release it, reducing the chance of accidental retraction mid-cut.

The design won a Good Design Award, recognizing that the integration is not just a convenience feature but a genuine rethink of how blade disposal is built into the tool rather than treated as an afterthought.
