Behind the Design

The Country Time Floral Pattern calendar pairs the practical structure of a large monthly grid with original watercolor illustrations commissioned from artist Takiko Kuroiwa. Each month brings a new seasonal subject: January opens with mimosa and lemon-yellow peonies, July moves to jasmine, October settles into purple scabiosa alongside autumn raspberry leaves, and December closes the year with a mistletoe and cotton wreath.

The production process paid particular attention to color fidelity, preserving the translucency and brushwork that define watercolor as a medium. Equally deliberate is the composition of each illustration: artwork is positioned and its density calibrated so that the date cells remain clean and legible even when filled with notes. The result is a calendar that functions as both a scheduling tool and a rotating display of seasonal illustration.
