Behind the Design

BGM's Life series has built a following around nature-inspired and everyday motifs, but the shift to clear tape opens up a different visual language. When foil is applied to transparent PET instead of a paper or opaque base, the pattern reads differently depending on what sits beneath it, so a single tape can look subdued on white paper and vivid against a coloured background.

The Sky Encyclopedia design was originally developed as an illustrated series celebrating sky phenomena and cloud formations. Translating it to clear tape means the clouds appear to sit above whatever surface they're placed on, using the tape's transparency as a compositional tool rather than a limitation. The Pebble design takes a different approach: its seamlessly repeating stone pattern is intended as a collage background tile, giving a textured fill that connects across multiple strips without visible seams.

Foil-stamped clear tape from BGM's Life series, where the transparent PET base lets the patterns float rather than sit flat on the page. The sky and cloud designs from the popular Sky Encyclopedia series are especially striking here: the clear material creates depth that opaque tape simply cannot replicate.
