Behind the Design

The Bird Pattern calendar has built a following over multiple years by combining botanical accuracy with an illustrative warmth that makes each month feel like a small gift. Rather than repeating a single motif, MIDORI commissions a fresh pairing for every month: a specific bird species alongside the plant most associated with that season in Japan and beyond.

The 2027 edition introduces several species new to the series, including the Derbyan Parakeet, African Grey Parrot, Galah, and Diamond Dove, giving returning fans new scenes to look forward to. Each illustration is drawn to capture a small behavioral moment: birds tilting their heads, holding a flower stem in their beak, or perched mid-conversation among leaves. The large date boxes are sized with household scheduling in mind, leaving room for multiple entries without crowding the artwork.

A large-format wall calendar pairing a different bird species with a matching seasonal plant each month, from Java Sparrows in January to Lineolated Parakeets in December.
