Behind the Design

The MIDORI Pocket Diary Slim has built a following around its illustrated designs, and the bird pattern is the one that started it all. Now in its 15th year, the design gets a commemorative cover and frontispiece that differ from the standard annual release.

What makes the bird pattern distinctive is the sequential illustration system on the weekly pages. Each spread places a small bird scene at the top, and when you flip through the pages in sequence, the birds animate: walking across the spread, pecking at berries, changing plumage with the season. Every year, the series features at least one large or rare bird not typically seen in everyday life, giving returning readers something new to find.

The slim format keeps the diary pocket-sized at 5mm thick, with a PVC cover that holds its shape through daily carry.
