Yukiko Moriyama graduated from Bunka Fashion College in Tokyo, then spent four years in Paris working at fashion brand ateliers. That detour through French fashion is legible in her illustrations: there is a quietness to the compositions, a sense of color borrowed more from couture than from graphic design.

After returning to Japan and settling in Fukuoka, Moriyama shifted from fashion illustration to watercolor drawing, while continuing to teach fashion drawing and producing textile-based clothing under the name ROUE. Her illustrations sit at the intersection of those two practices, garments and nature rendered with the same careful, unhurried line.

This postcard series is part of TOUCH & FLOW's Art Touch project, which commissions original works from illustrators and reproduces them as postcards and other everyday objects. The idea is that art doesn't need a gallery context to land. Moriyama's pieces in this series take familiar subjects, butterflies, hydrangeas, forest textures, a night sky, and treat them as scenes from a story the viewer is invited to continue.
