Behind the Design

Rumi Kawagoe graduated from Tama Art University's Department of Painting and has built a body of work around a single recurring theme: the coexistence of all living things, depicted through animals and children set against forests and rural landscapes. She holds solo and group exhibitions annually, and her paintings carry a quiet, unhurried mood that feels closer to illustration for a picture book than to commercial art.

TOUCH & FLOW approached Kawagoe to create a postcard series that could carry that same mood into an everyday format. The eight designs span a range of subjects — a forest gathering, a bear with a bird, a cat, a rabbit, an owl, a pig, and two moon-and-rabbit compositions — each originating as an oil pastel and acrylic painting before being reproduced at standard postcard size. The result is a set of cards that sit comfortably in the mail or on a shelf.

A standard-size postcard series born from a collaboration between TOUCH & FLOW and illustrator Rumi Kawagoe, whose work centers on animals and children set in forests and countryside landscapes. Each design is rendered in oil pastels and acrylic paint, giving the imagery a storybook warmth that reads as hand-made rather than printed.
