Orie Kawamura trained as an apparel designer before going freelance in 2009 and shifting into illustration in 2011. Her commercial work leans into fine-detail natural motifs: flora, fauna, insects, and animals rendered with precision for textile fabrics, packaging, and picture books. Her personal work moves in the opposite direction, using flattened, deformed forms and saturated color as a deliberate counterpoint.

This postcard series sits firmly in that personal register. The theme running through all six designs is the natural world as seen from Hokkaido: plants, animals, and light. The cat designs reflect her long-held motto of living stylishly alongside cats. The production method layers digital drawing on an iPad with analogue paint-based marbling for coloring, then final editing on a Mac, a hybrid process that gives each card a texture that sits between illustration and textile design.

The series is part of TOUCH & FLOW's [Art Touch] project, which commissions artists to produce work intended for everyday display and use, rather than gallery contexts.
